AYUTTHAYA : One person was injured when shots were fired at a passenger bus heading to Bangkok from Nan.

The incident in Nakhon Luang district was reported to police
at about 5am yesterday, said officer Chanrat Thanomsuk
of the district police station.

Ann Chankham, 37, was hit in the arm as she sat on the right side of the bus.
She was taken to hospital and had the bullet removed after the driver stopped
to alert the authorities. The injured woman said she believed the shot was fired
by teenagers in Ayutthaya where frequent attacks on
passing vehicles have been reported recently.

"I've heard a lot about teenagers in Ayutthaya attacking
vehicles running through the province with stones but never
thought I would become a victim myself," said Ms Ann.

There were 27 passengers on board the bus when the attack occurred.
Most were asleep and the lights were off at the time.

The incident has raised concerns over possible repeats of such violence
during tomorrow's Loy Krathong festival.
