Tusinder af lanterner på himmelflugt skyld i aflyste fly
Ferierejsende i Thailand bør holde godt øje med vildfarne lanterner og flyaflysninger

Chiang Mai International Airport, hvor både nationale og internationale fly lander og letter hver dag, har nemlig oplyst, at næsten 90 fly vil blive aflyst, og yderligere 51 vil blive omdirigeret over de næste dage. Det skriver Daily Mail.

Selv om man kunne tro det, er det nu ikke fordi, at thailænderne afholder festivaldage, som vi holder helligdage – med lukkede institutioner og ferie-stemning. Lukningen sker som en sikkerhedsforanstaltning.

Lys mod himlen
I Thailand er der nemlig tradition for at sende hundredvis af papirlanterner til himmels i løbet af festivalen. I 2014 landede hele 142 lanterner på landingsbaner i det nordlige Thailand – hvilket faktisk var væsentligt færre end i 2013, hvor næsten 1500 lanterner endte på lufthavnenes landningsbaner.

Sidste år havde lufthavnene medarbejdere til at fjerne de mange vildfarne lanterner – og det samme vil ske i år.

De tager dog ingen chancer i Chiang Mai International Airport og har derfor valgt at tilpasse flytrafikken til festivalen.

Loi Krathong Festival 2015

One of the most-celebrated festivities especially among the Thai people nationwide is the Loi Kratong Festival which usually falls on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month. Several important rivers and ponds across Thailand will be illuminated with candle-lit ‘Krathong’ —small floating vessels made from banana leaves and decorated with incense, offerings, flowers and candles.

Apart from the making and floating of krathongs, there are also several other exciting events taking place during Loi Krathong, from beauty contests to performances of traditional music and dance, and dramatic firework displays. Therefore, Loi Krathong is a spectacle not to be missed. This year, the festival is set to take place during 23-25 November, 2015 nationwide.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has highlighted seven venues from across the country which has its own unique way of Loi Krathong celebrations as follow:
