The army has on Friday spruced up checkpoints close to tourist spots by putting flowers around their bunkers after caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra suggested less intimidating decor would help improve the Thailand's image.
Deputy army spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said army commander Prayuth Chan-ocha issued an order to "adjust" the checkpoints, but insisted the majority of the public understood the army’s operations.
He said the checkpoints and bunkers would be taken away when the violence stops.

ANTI-GOVERNMENT CAMPAIGNS
Attacks at hospital condemned
Some assailants opened fires on Mongkutwattana General Hospital on Chang Wattana road on Friday night, damaging a part of a floor and no one was injured.
Maj Gen Dr Rienthong Nanna, director of the hospital, posted on his Facebook that the attack took place at about 8pm when an unidentified group shot at the hospital which is opposite a rally site.
He condemned the attack, saying hospitals have never been the targets even in the World War or any battlefields.
"The hospital has treated not only the anti-government protesters but also thier opposition without any discrimination. The hospital has employees who either support or oppose the protests but they could work together," he said.
He will not file a complaint with police about the attack because he did not have confidence and trust on the caretaker government and wish to ask for protection from the army units deployed in Chang Wattana area.
The doctor also posted a photo of a hole he said caused by the shooting.
