A large retail store, nearby shophouses and motorcycles were damaged by a car bomb explosion in Narathiwat’s Muang district around noon Friday, reports said.
A 20kg explosive device hidden inside a pickup truck parked on front of Jip Heng shop, a giant retail business operator in Narathiwat, opposite Muang Narathiwat police station, exploded about 12.06pm.
No one was injured or killed in the explosion, according to the reports.
It was the second bomb attack in this southernmost province on Friday.
This morning one soldier and five civilians were injured, with one civlian seriously wounded, when a motorcycle bomb exploded at a fresh market on Phuphaphakdee road of Muang Narathiwat municipality.
Police blamed the bombings on an insurgent group active in the province.
Friday's bombings came the day after National Security Council (NSC) secretary general Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanathabutr signed a peace talks agreement with Hassan Taib, identified as the "chief of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) liaison office in Malaysia".
The agreement was signed on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur.
The BRN is said to be only one of several insurgent groups active in the far South.
According to Deep South Watch, which monitors the southern violence, more than 5,000 people have been killed and over 9,000 injured in more than 11,000 incidents, or about 3.5 a day, in the three southernmost provinces and the four districts of Songkhla since the violence erupted afresh in January 2004.

Insurgent killed in Narathiwat clash
A leading member of an Runda Kumpalan Kecil (Malay; Thai militant group) separatist group was killed in a clash with a government force late on Saturday night in Narathiwat's Rangae district.
Masa-e Hajidiyoliya
The clash occurred at about 11.30pm after three teams of the 48th Rangers Regiment laid siege to a house at Ban Kutong in tambon Bongo where RKK insurgents led by Masa-e Hajidiyoliya, 30, were reported to be hiding. An exchange of fire went on for about 10 minutes.
Another exchange of fire resumed when the rangers were reinforced by a police special operation team arrived.
The three insurgents tried to break through the siege. Masa-e was shot to death about 20 metres from the house while the two others managed to escape into the dark.
The authorities recovered an ID card of Hasman Samamaeng, 36, at the scene.
The body of Masa-e was riddled with bullets. One 11mm pistol with 50 rounds of ammunition were found by his side.
The government force seized four motorcycles from the house for examination.
Masa-e was wanted under six arrest warrants for six security-related incidents - one in 2007, two in 2008 and three in 2009.
