Three monks, three policemen and three local residents were slightly wounded after a homemade bomb went off in front of a laundry shop on Charoen Pradit Road in Pattani's Mueang district Monday morning.
The monks from Wat Khajorn Pracharam, guarded by three policemen, were collecting alms when the three-kilogram bomb, hidden under a flowerpot near Nuch Laundry Shop was detonated by a remote control and exploded when the group was about five meters away from it, said Mueang Pattani Police Station Superintendant Pol Col Somporn Meesuk.
The wounded Phra Jin Panichkul, 52, Phra Yongyuth Khaoborisut, 35, Phra Worapong Sutthipong, 54, Pol Cpl Thanom Khonwai, 29, Pol Cpl Kampanart Malawan, 28, Pol Cpl Prakarn Chedipeng, 26, as well as civilians Chat Sukubol, 72, Chid Sukubol, 70 and Yeun Sukhonkhet, 72 were rushed to Pattani hospital. Police suspected this was the insurgents' doing as to create chaos in the region.

Bombers destroy power poles in Yala
Two power poles on a local road at Moo 2 in Yala’s Tharnto district were brought down by explosives late on Sunday might, Pol Col Wichai Chaengsakul, chief of Tharnto police station, said on Monday.
Police received a report of the bombings about 7.30am. On investigating they found two electricity poles had been toppled and evidence two home-made bombs having been detonated by timers.
Villagers told police that the two explosions occurred about midnight, and the electricity supply was abruptly cut off. No one dared to go out to see what was happening. They reported it to police on Monday morning.
Police said it appeared a five-kilogramme improvised time bomb was attached to each power pole and then detonated.
